Match Anglers save deaf and blind dog from river. December 4th 2022

Monday 4th December 2022.

Smudge a 15 year old deaf and blind labrador which had been missing since Friday night has been rescued alive from the River Wye at Hunderton on Sunday morning by anglers fishing the ABC Baits Winter league Match. Rory Jones and Rob Brennan spotted the dog in the water from the opposite bank and alerted the anglers that were fishing the pegs on the Hunderton side known as “the railings” just above the old railway bridge close to the childrens playground.

Ant Taylor and Phil Amos together with other anglers then set about getting in the water and rescuing the dog. Local residents then took care of the dog and contacted the RSPCA. Smudge is now back at home recovering after his ordeal. Well done to all involved.
