River Wye- Villa Street

Brief description of fishery:

The River Wye Belmont – Villa Street stretch is a small section opposite the Pump House which is a deep steady run. This is the start of the famous match fishing stretch and regularly produces big bags of Roach, Dace, Chublets, and Perch as well as big bags of Larger Chub and Barbel.

Roach, Bleak, Dace, Perch, Pike, Chub, and Barbel are the main target species with all present during the summer months, during Autumn the smaller fish from the upper reaches migrate downstream to this area. Carp of specimen size is present but locating them can be tricky as they like to freely roam miles of River but they are present to 30lb+ All the usual modern methods and baits work well on their day but don’t forget Maggots, Caster, Hemp, Worm, Meat & Bread which are all regular producers. A static approach is the best way to build a weight of fish, please bring 2 keepnets as you may need them; also speaking to the local tackle shop can put you on the fish based on recent catch reports or check out the recent match reports.

The setting is more urban now and the paths are level with parking next to the river.

Comfortable swims in this area are more common than at Breinton/Wareham however the banks are steep, and we recommend using a rope with a dog spike, particularly in damp conditions where the clay-based soil becomes very slippery. Always check the levels using the EA website and keep an eye on it during the day as they can rise high very quickly.
