Yesterday the 38th Wye Team Championship took place across the majority of our waters from Breinton downstream to the end of the Field Farm section. Thirteen teams of 6 anglers took part with one ngler from each team  placed in each of the 13 sections.Following a chilly night with the temperature dropping to around 5C everyone was wondering what effect it may have on the fish. As it turned out the river fished surprisingly well across all sections  with over 20lb needed to score decent team points.across all sections.Would team Woodys manage their fourth  title in a row?

Top individual weight  on the day was Darren Frost (Cadence-Bait Tech) who weighed in 56lb 8oz  from a peg on the Bartonsham section. Runner up was Martin Challeger (Nomads) who weighed in 43lb 8oz from a peg at the top end of Breinton. Third was Andrew Cranston (DH Angling) who was pegged on Belmont 2 on the left bank close to the Rugby Club.He weighed in 42lb 4oz.

On the team front, Cadence Bait-Tech and DH Angling both managed 2 section wins a piece to claim an initial 26 points towards their totals. DH Angling also had 2 anglers who were runners up in their section, whilst Cadence Bait-Tech only managed 2 third places. However Cadence Bait-Tech provided better back up weights compared to DH Angling and were duly crowned Champions with 64 points and a total weight of 156lb 10oz. Runners up were DH Angling who scored 58 points and had a total weight of 136lb 6oz. Third place went to Woodys who had won the match for the previous 3 years. They finished on 57 points and a total weight of 138lb 13oz. Altogether some great weights throughout the match length despite the river being low (0.14m) and clear. The river rose after the match had finished but more rain is needed this week to increase levels before the 1st Winter League Match of the season takes place next Sunday 11th October across the Belmont and Tennis Courts sections.
