Monday November 2nd 2026.

Following the high water level of last Sunday, which caused the postponement of the Wye Championship, and very little rain since, the river had dropped considerably and was now running on the clear side, with a depth of 0.64m at Old Wye Bridge at the start of the match. The 72 anglers at the draw were met with a cold bright morning with temperatures hovering around 4C. With the clear and cold conditions dace, perch and chub would likely be the main species feeding but bleak and barbel could not be discounted. As the match progressed it became clear that the main species being caught were perch,  with individual winner Hadrian Whittle (Woodys) catching 67lb 4oz of mainly perch from left bank peg 48. Runner up was team mate Rob Brennan (Woodys) who weighed in 64lb 60oz of perch from peg 63 , just upstream of the Rowing Club. Taking 3rd place was Paul Passmore (ABC) who was on peg 89 on the Asda bank. He weighed in 61lb 0oz. Barbel chub and bleak also featured in catches but the weights on the out of town sections were a bit patchy.

On the team front Woodys took the top spot with 56 points with Cadence Bait-Tech Superteam finishing 2nd with 50 points and Wizards finishing 3rd equal with DH Angling on 47 points. Woodys now lead the league table with 23 points ahead of DH Angling in second place with 22 points with Cadence Bait-Tech Superteam in 3rd place with 21 points. It is tight at the top of the league  after 2 matches, but it is still early days. All in all a good match with 6 weights over 50lb being recorded.

Unfortunatley an angler was taken ill at the match which resulted in a trip to A & E. The good news is that he is back home now recovering from a severe viral infection. Thanks go to those anglers  who gave assistance in getting him to hospital and to those who sorted out his kit for him. No doubt he will be back fighting fit for the next league match on Sunday 6th December. Before that there is the 3 day River Wye Festival taking place next week (11-13th Nov), followed by the Running Line Championship (18th Nov.), the Pairs Match (21st/22nd Nov) and then re arranged Wye Championship on Sunday 29th November.
