Sunday September 13th 2026.
The final match of the summer series of matches took place last Sunday, with the previous match being cancelled due to high temperatures and low water levels. Nine anglers turned up for the draw and were met with a cloudy and damp start due to to some light overnight rain. However sunny spells were expected with a temperature of around 25C expected later in the day. With no bait going into the pool until the last few days, it was not known how the pool would fish. Pleasure anglers had reported some good catches during the week with carp again being the dominant species.
As it turned out, the fishing was a bit of a let down. Winner Mike Mclaughlin caught carp from a peg near the far end of the pool to record a weight of 29lb 12oz. Runner up was Pencoyd regular Martynas Valentonis who caught 26lb 7oz of carp from a peg near the middle of the pool. Dave Brymer took third place with 18lb of carp, 2 pegs away from Martynas. All in all a disappointing series this year but hopefully things will improve in the future. Matches now switch to the river with hopes that catches will be on a par with those of last Autumn and Winter however more water is needed as current levels are still on the low side.
