River Wye Team Championship 2023- Results
Wednesday 11th October 2023
Last Sunday saw the 35th annual Wye Team Chamionship take place. Fifteen teams of 6 anglers battled it out to try and lift the trophy. The match was fished on our waters from Breinton downstream to Field Farm. With the river haiving had an influx of fresh water in the previous couple of days the height of 0.8m and falling, and an above average temparature of round 22degrees suggested that there would be plenty of fish caught. With the balmy temperatures it was likely that bleak would feature in a lot of catches but so would chub, barbel and dace, roach and perch. In the end iti turned out to be a fantastci match witha total of 2,239 pounds of fish caught! This amounted to an average of over 24lb of fish per angler with decent bags being taken across the whole of the match length.
The match was closely contested and finished with local side Woodys Premier snatching the title from Cadence Superteam on a weight coutback. Both teams accumulated an impressive 81 points out of a possible 90, but Woodys took the title with a 257lb total, to Cadence 236lb. Individually the match was won by Midlands angler and Wye regular Danny Ashington, who caught a brilliant 63lb of chub from an area just below the railway bridge at Eign. Runner up on the day was Hereford based match organiser and Angling guide, Dave Roberts, with a weight of 58lb caught from the middle of the Bartonsham section. This helped his Woodys Premier team take the honours. The full result can be found below along with a photo of winning team Woodys Premier. All in all another great match which bodes well for the matches over the coming winter months. A big thank you to Dave Roberts for another well run match.
