Joe Burrows Charity Match – Results Sunday 24th September 2023.

Sunday 24th September 2023.

Today saw the annual Joe Burrows Charity match take  place on the Breinton, Belmont, Tennis Courts, Bartonsham and Eign sections of the River Wye.This match kicks off the Autum/Winter  series of matches and with the river having had a good flush through during the week,  dropping from a peak of 3.9m on Thursday morning, to a more reasonable height of 0.85m with colour by the start of the match, expectations were high amonst the 60 anglers fishing. Some good weights of chub, barbel and dace were expected in the blustery conditions. The river did not disappoint and fished well throughout the match length.

Fresh from finishing runner up in last weekend’s Riverfest Final on the River Trent, Charlie Gooch went one better by winning the match with 63lb 14oz of chub and dace from the bottom peg of the Tennis Courts section. Runner up Hadrian Whittle was pegged on the Breinton section and managed to catch 61lb 12oz of roach, chub, dace perch and bleak from an unfancied peg on the Breinton stretch. Third was Andy “Spud” Murphy who was pegged at Eign and weighed in 59lb 8oz. Fourth was Joe Holloway who managed a catch of 55lb exactly from a peg at Bartonsham.
