Joe Burrows Memorial Charity Shield Sunday 28th September 2025 – Results
Thursday 9th October 2025.
Eighty anglers were booked in for this match with the out of town sections being used from Breinton to Field Farm. Following a recent rise in levels the river was now clearing and chub were expected to figure strongly throughout the match length. Drawing peg 74 on the “withy beds” at Bartonsham, local angler Glen “Peanut” Carter put together an unbeatable chub catch to finish with 71lb 4oz and take the coveted shield. He fished stick float in conjunction with hemp, casters and maggots to catch chub up to 4lb. Runner up was match organiser Dave “Robbo” Roberts who weighed in 62lb of waggler caught chub from the middle of the Field Farm section. Third place on the day went to Midland angler and Wye regular Ade Griffin who weighed in 61lb 14oz of chub from peg 35 at the top of the Tennis Courts section. Considering the bright conditions the match fished well overall with 16lbs the lowest section winning weight. Some bleak from Belmont made up the lower framing weights.
Thanks to all who took part, and in doing so raised £790 towards the H&DAA Charity Fund. The next match is the Wye Team Championship which will be fished by fifteen teams of 6 next Sunday 5th October between Breinton and Field Farm.
