ABC Baits Winter League Round 5 14/01/24.

Monday January 15th 2024.

Yesterday saw the latest round of the ABC baits Winter League take place. Following the cancellation of last weeks revised round 2 match due to high water, the 72 anglers taking part were met with a cold clear river which had dropped steadily over the week from 2.5m to 0.8m.With these conditions it was likely that chub would form the bulk of catches with the pegs below the old railway bridge likely to record the highest weights. Those anglers heading up to “A”  would likely struggle to find fish.

As expected the Asda bank produced some fantastic weights, but the opposite bank alongside the rugby club also threw up some great weights. “A ” section lived up to expectations with only 2 of the 12 anglers managing to find fish, while “B” section was also a struggle for half the anglers.

There was a tie for top individual weight between Tom Boulton and Ant Taylor who both weighed in 97lb 6oz from pegs  86 and 83 respectively. Third place went to  Kev Ellaby with 93lb 8oz from peg 96 and Dave Harrell managed fourth overall with 89lb 12oz from deep peg 91. All the leading weights were made up with chub, mostly between 8oz and 1-8-0, caught from mid river on bulk rigs with bunches of maggots, meat or corn.

On the team front Woody’s came out top on the day with 52 points followed by Storey ‘s MG on 50 points and Nomads A on 38 points. The next round is due to take place on Sunday 28th January. Full results below:
