River Wye Feeder Championship Sunday 12th February 2023.

Monday 13th February 2023.

Yesterday saw 70 anglers take part in the River Wye Feeder Championship. The match was paper pegged from Breinton downstream to the bottom of Eign. The river was again very low and clear which meant it was likely to be feast on famine for many but with milder  temperatures between 8 and 10 degrees it was likely that barbel would feature more in the catches. This proved to be the case with winner Bryn Thomas catching 12 barbel early on from peg 54 on the Tennis Courts section to finally weigh in with 77lb 14oz. Barbel also featured in the catches of the 2nd and 3rd placed anglers both of whom were pegged on the Bartonsham section. Runner up and “Mr Consistant” was Martin Challenger who weighed in 58lb to finsh clear of 3rd placed Dave Roberts who weighed in 56lb 9oz.

The Breinton and upper Belmont sections were a struggle for most with several dry nets. The town area generally fished well as expected but  there were still several dry nets on the Bartonsham and Eign sections. With no rain forecast this week but with mild temperatures it will be interesting to see how the Spring 2 day Festival fishes on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.
