Yesterday saw the 2nd round of the 2022 ABC Baits Winter League take place with 72 anglers lining the banks of the River Wye at Belmont. The river had risen slightly overnight to peak at 1.09m as the match got underway.Temperatures were still relatively mild at around 12C,and with so many bleak in the river it was likely that they would feature in several catches. However, individual winner Joe Holloway found a shoal of large dace on favoured peg 96 and proceeded to put together an unbeatable total of 78lb 4oz caught on whip to hand and stick float. Runner up was Phil Amos who weighed in 57lb 8oz from a peg midway down the Tennis Courts section followed closely by Nigel Evans in third place with 54lb 8oz, again from the Tennis Courts section.
The river fished extremely well again with plenty of weights over 20lb.
On the Team front, Cadence came out top on the day with a total of 65pts ahead of Nomads A on 56pts and third placed Cotswold on 49 pts.
