Elan Valley Dam Overflow
The River Elan level is Dam controlled, Dam water can adversely affect the fishing. The quantity of water when it arrives in Hereford is minimal, only a few cm due to the relative size of the River Elan compared to the middle Wye.
River Irfon
The River Irfon rises and falls quickly however when the Irfon is in spate it colours up fast and can drastically affect the Wye even when the Wye; which comes from a different source, has had little rain.
River Wye Levels
The gagues are listed in order from upstream near Rayader to Mordiford the last gauge affecting our waters; this means that you have an indication of the prevailing River conditions and a forecast over the coming days.In the Winter months it typically takes 15 hours for a peak at Buith Wells to reach Hereford Bridge; this can change depending on local conditions and takes much longer in the summer. The Rivers Irfon and Elan can impact on this and for the Holme Lacy & Fownhope Sections of the River the Lugg can affect conditions further; typically the Lugg holds spate water for longer than the main river.
