Yesterday the latest in the Summer series of matches took place with 7 anglers turning up for the draw. With recent warm settled conditions competitors were hoping that a few more fish would show with carp being the main species. The temperature was predicted to hit 27C later in the afternoon although the sky was cloudy for the most part. Those anglers who drew near the top end of the pool would be thankful for some shade. The story of the match was that it had been frustrating for some with a couple of anglers losing between 5 and 7 fish due to hook pulls or finding a snag amongst the tree roots.
Winner on the day was Mike Mclaughlin who weighed in several carp for a total weight of 38lb 4oz from a peg toiwards the top of the pool. Runner up was Julian Shelby-James who wweighed in 25lb 4oz of carp from a peg midway along the right bank. Third was Acting Chairman Graham Matthews who was pegged close to the dam end. He recorded a weight of 18lb 12oz consisting of 3 carp along with a few small roach and perch.
The weights were down compared to the same time last year when weights above 50lb were being recorded. However there are many factors influencing what is caught. The next match will be on Saturday 18th July. As usual there will be a list in Woody’s tackle shop for any member wishing to take part.
