Yesterday 30 Club Members turned up for the annual “Fur & Feather” Match which was held on the match length at Belmont. All members who fish this match receive a prize of Christmas food and drink.. Following recent flood conditions earlier in the week, when the river reached a height of 4.6m, the river was now dropping steadily and was measuring around 1.5m at the Old Bridge at the start of the match. The temperature was around 8C, with a dry, increasingly windy day forecast. It looked spot on for some good catches of roach, dace and perch.
Winner on the day was Jack Jones who was pegged opposite the Rowing Club. He caught roach and dace to weigh in 75lb 8oz. Runner up was Geoff Brierley who was on the next peg downstream to Jack. He weighed in 67lb of roach and dace. Third place went to Dave Roberts who was pegged downstream of Geof. He recorded a weight of 48lb 9oz. Fourth place went to Ray Downey with 47lb 2oz. He ws pegged just upstream of the winner.
All in all another very good match with the top 15 anglers all catching 20lb+ of fish.Well done to all who took part. Many thanks to Pete Pembridge for running the match and to Dave Roberts for helping Pete collect the przes. The next match will be the 4th round of the Van den Eynde Winter league to be held this coming Sunday, 21st December on the Belmont and Tennis courts sections.
