ABC Baits River Wye Winter League Round 4 15/12/24
Monday 16th December 2024.
Yesterday saw the last WL match of the year take place on a river that seven days ago was in flood and running at 5.4m. However with no appreciable rain during the last week the river had dropped to a steady level of around 0.9m. After several days of temperatures around 5-7 degrees, a mild bright day was forecast with temperatures topping out at around 12C with a breeze. Just before the draw took place, Wye regular Dave Harrell made a presentation of a Christmas hamper to match organiser Dave Roberts on behalf of all the anglers present, for all the work Dave puts in running these matches. There were also gifts for his team of helpers, Tony Doyle, Geoff Brierley and Pete Pembridge.
The river again fished well, with fish spread throughout the match length and all species feeding.. Individual winner on the day was Tom Boulton (Wizards) who used bolo tactics to snare chub from peg 94 to record a weight of 99lb 8oz.Runner up was Anthony Taylor who weighed in 67lb 6oz from peg 48 on the left bank. Third was Ade Griffin with 62lb from peg 55.
On the team front Woody’s took pole position on the day with three of their anglers finishing in the top 2. to give them a total of 50 points. Runners up were Nomads A with 49 points and Woody’s Bait – Tech third with 48 points. Woody’s remain top of the league having scored a perfect 48 points by winning all 4 rounds so far, with Cadence Bait – Tech remaining in second place on 41 poits.
