ABC Baits River Wye Winter League Round 3 1/12/24
Monday 2nd December 2024
Yesterday the 3rd round of the 2024/25 ABC Baits Winter League took place on the match length at Belmont and Tennis Courts. After recent water levels of over 5m the previous weekend the river was fining down nicely and was around 1.2m at the start of the match although overnight rain in Wales was likely to push the level up later in the day. There was still some colour in the water and with mild temperatures of around 12C it was likely that many fish would feed but would they be spread throughout the match length or more shoaled up?
As it turned out there were plenty of fish caught throughout the match length including the Tennis Courts and dreaded “A”section with barbel, chub, roach dace and perch all featuring in catches. Individual winner on the day was Matt Derry (Woodys) who weighed in 57lb 8oz of barbel from peg 10 in “A” section. Runner up was Rob Brennan (Woodys) who caught 52lb 2oz from peg 95 under the bridge. Third was Joe Holloway (DH Angling) who finished with a weight of 52lb from peg 88.
On the team front, Woodys came out top on the day with 60 points with five or their six anglers recording 10 points or more. Runners up on the day with 50 points each were Nomads and Cadence Bait-Tech with Woodys Bait-Tech and DH Angling finishing joint fourth with 49 points each.
With Woodys finishing top in all three rounds so far, they lead the league table with a maximum 36 points, with Cadence Bait-Tech currently in second spot with 32points with DH Angling third with 30 points. Overall the river fished well with the fish spread out over all sections, so the majority of anglers had a decent day’s fishing.
The next match will be the Association Fur and Feather match to be held on Sunday 8th December with the next round of the Winter League is scheduled for Sunday 15th December 2024. Full results below:
