Club Match – Belmont 04/02/2024
Sunday 4th February 2024.
Thirty one anglers booked in for this Club match held on the Belmont section of the River Wye. With temperatures around a mild 12oC and a mainly cloudy day expected hopes were high of some good weights. The river had been dropping steadily during the week but the match started with the river starting to rise slowly following an overnight rise in Wales. The blustery downstream wind which had been forecast made presentation more difficult as the match progressed.
Following his two recent wins in the Winter League series, Ant Taylor drew second to last and pulled out fancied peg 96. Could he make it 3 wins on the trot? Presenting big cubes of meat on a size 8 hook under a 10g bolo float he proceeded to catch 123 fish to win the match comfortably, weighing in a tremendous 172lb of fish. Runner up was Ade Griffin who drew peg 91. He weighed in 84lb of chub. Third was Ross Townley who weighed in 60lb 8oz from peg 92.
The river fished well considering the increasingly windy conditions with over half the competitors catching over 20lb of fish. Next Sunday sees the 2024 River Wye Feedermasters match take place on almost all of our waters on the River Wye.
